Not much to going on here at the moment with the excessive heat, we’re getting ready for our eldest son, DIL and youngest GSs visit in ten days time, last Wednesday our family from San Francisco left after their two week visit, it was a sad day made worst by having to be up at 6am to get to the airport.
Our son was mid flight from San Francisco and DIL and GSs at the airport in Berlin when the airlines cancelled their return flights from Spain to the Uk so our poor DIL spent the afternoon at the airport trying to find another flight, ended up flying into Birmingham, miles from London, in the end they hired a car with driver to collect them from Birmingham to drive them to Oxford where our DIL was staying with her sister and then taking our son on to London for his flight home the following Day, Hopefully they will get a refund on their original flight as it cost an extra £900 for the flights and £300 for the car! Quite disgusting that they are allowed to just cancel leaving people stranded.
Our GS pointed out the sky as we were driving to the beach, dark rays across the sky.
We had a lovely two weeks with them, it was exhausting as our ten year old GS loves the pool and so I had hours of fun with him, also playing Uno, we had a championship every evening before bed, it was fun but they are all very competitive so you had to have your wits about you at all times. Also some cheating going on too!
Our ten year old GS wanted to play in my craft room, he made this card for his Mum, he embossed the BG and he wiped pink distress inks over the raised pattern before adding the flowers, bling and the MOM across the front.
I think he did a great job for his first time!
it's 9.30am and already hot and humid, we have already had our walk and breakfast, today and Wednesday we have heat warnings as they say it may get up to 46C, never had more than 40C here before and only once I think, fingers crossed it doesn't get that hot!
My ticket to the T party for this week; I sent this photo to our son to show that we are preparing for his visit, we always take a couple of beers to the airport, wine for DIL and cold drink for GS, to celebrate the start of their holiday, usually sandwiches too just incase they are hungry, it keeps GS occupied as it's a 90 minute journey from the airport, he told me over the weekend that he is travelling in his swim shorts so he can jump out of the car and jump straight into the pool, I had visions of him sitting on the plane with his swimming goggles on too. LOL
Hope all the ladies of the T gang are happy and well, that's me for this week, off to the pool for a swim, the water is 31c ! Take Care Ladies

Good morning Jan, oh wow what a frustrating trip back home and expensive too-hoping they get a refund too that was horrible and stressful.
ReplyDeleteYour grandson did an awesome job making the card for his Mom I love it.
I can just visualize him in swim suit too getting ready to jump in to the pool-smiles enjoy the viisit Happy T Kathy
Hi Jan, you are being kept busy by your visitors, but I think you love having your family there! It's a disgrace how airlines sometimes treat their passengers, I hope they get their geld back. How funny that your gs is so keen to get into the pool, I hope he enjoys it when he does! Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteHaving the family visit is really wonderful! But of course kids do wear you out. I loved the description of the nightly game event. You reminded me of an old photo of our granddaughter in her swim suit and goggles at the breakfast table, all ready for her swim lessons.

Sounds like you have been up to great things! Just checking in - happy t-day (I am not
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great visit with your family. Uno competitions sound fun especially when everyone is competitive. He made a lovely card!
ReplyDeleteHappy Tea Day,
Kate
You are so lucky to have the family visit. The card is so pretty and what a great job he did. Stay cool and have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteHOT here too so i can sympathize... We get all our activities done for the day before noon if at all possible then just hibernate.. So glad when this bubble bursts... or the heat dome disappears.. whatever you want to call it.. So glad you enjoyed your company.. Happy T day ! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteGreat that you had such a lovely time with the family.
ReplyDeleteIt's hot here too (Granada province) it was 40 degrees here today although higher temperatures were forecast, I don't think it got that hot.
Your grandson really did an excellent job of that birthday card. Well done!
Happy T Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
Jan, I am so happy for you having your family for 2 weeks! I know it is tiring, but I know it is wonderful, too. Your grandson did a great card, creative just like his grandmother! I love the picture in my mind as you described how you picture your grandson on the plane. LOL So funny. Happy T day.
ReplyDeleteIt is always lovely to have the family for a couple weeks when they live so far away. We always feel very happy when we can see our daughter who lives in Germany. 46 C is awful - we had that last September and it was plain horrible. I hope it won't get that hot for you.
ReplyDeleteIf that failed flight had occurred in the states, the head of the Dept. of Transportation would have made sure you got your money back. He has forced several airlines (mainly Southwestern) to pay for hotel rooms, food, transportation, etc. when flights were delayed last year. I hope your family is reimbursed.
ReplyDeleteI bet it was great having your family there for two weeks. Your grandson must have kept you on your toes the entire time, too. I had to laugh at him saying he was going to wear his swim trunks on the plane so he could jump in the pool as soon as he got there.
Your grandson did a GREAT job making that card. It is better than any I could make, I'm sure.
So nice you could take all those drinks to the airport for your family. I am sure they would have appreciated them. Thanks for sharing your two
OOPS, I hit something. At least it posted and I didn't lose it. Thanks for sharing your two weeks with your family, the card your GS made, the drinks you took to the airport, and the family time you shared with us for T this Tuesday, dear Jan.
ReplyDeleteWE've had so many flights cancelled here in the US over the past few months that it does make you think twice about flying. I even had flights cancelled in April when I was supposed to fly...luckily I was able to cancel my trip without too many bad effects. But still, who wants to cancel. This summer so many people seem hot, but you must be looking forward to your company. Sorry I'm late for T on your blog, yesterday turned into a long and busy day. I hope it was happy and have a great week. hugs-Erika
