T is for Treat

The weather has been exceptionally hot here in San Francisco, it starts off foggy and but by 10am the fog has lifted and it baking, I’m not complaining as we had quite a few days of rain while we were in the UK.
At least we’ve been able to enjoy getting out and about. Last Friday was our eldest GSs birthday, 11 years, he’s nearly as tall as I am although our sons say that’s not hard as I’m only 5ft 4, ha,ha he takes much bigger size shoes too!
When our son was a teenager he wore size 11UK, very large, he would buy flashy designer trainers, (sneakers )when he got tired of them would pass them on to my dad who also took the same size, we had the only senior walking around with flashing lights in his heels, looked very funny but Dad loved them!
Last Thursday we went on the Muni to San Francisco, we love it, for $1.50 each it’s good value, we love people watching, we leave the car at SF zoo and go into Market & Powell, we were going to Macy’s sale to buy our eldest son some Levi jeans, on the way we nipped into to Ross, found three pairs for $75 instead of paying $59 each! A bargain, managed to buy pumpkin bread mix from Traders Joes as eldest GS loves it..
After our shopping trip We drove down the coast to Half Moon bay intending to go for fish and chips at Barbara’s fish trap but when we saw the queues we turned back at ended up at Nicks at Rockaway Beach
The food was delicious and I had a glass of wine from Napa, Steve had sin alcohol beer, you can see they have amazing views, lots of artwork, Steve says some people on the pictures from the 50’s were probably still sat eating in the restaurant , I must admit it is a big favourite with Seniors LOL
Finally the latest photo from “Buck House” from my son, you can just see one guardsman on the bottom left on the second photo, in red, they were changing the guards at the time but unfortunately due to the barriers he couldn’t get close enough
Sadly for many people in CA they have once again lost their homes in the awful fires again, we’ve had no power since Saturday night,no school so we went to the cinema, it only came on at 4pm today, the GSs ran out of iPad juice so we had glow sticks and played statues, Jedi knights and then we played hide and seek, youngest had a flash light on a head band so we could see him moving about upstairs, quite funny that he hid under the duvet and I could see the light! Have a happy T Day, I’m happy my Joanns order arrived today Jan x

  2. One year I was visiting a friend in CA (Los Angeles) and he had no AC in his house. Only a whole house fan that was built into the ceiling. It got so hot, we went to the movies, too. It's unimaginable about the fires. That same friend told me last week he was within 7 blocks of having to evacuate due to the fires and smoke damage. I bet the blackouts are bad for local business and of course, tourism, too.

I enjoyed seeing the photos from that place and laughed at what your husband said about the seniors. Your fish and fries (chips) looked great, but there weren't a lot of fries (grin).

Thanks for sharing your shopping trip, Nicks at Rockaway Beach, your fish, and your wine and your husband's beer with us for T this Tuesday. I also hope the fires subside soon. I can't begin to imagine what it's like to have everything burn down around you.

  5. Oh, the ocean! I like 50´s pics, though I am glad I was born in the 70´s.
It must´ve been very hard back then.
Yum, if not too fatty I like fish and chips, too.
Yes, the pictures of the fires are on the news here in Germany, too - frightening, I hope they get it under control soon... No electricity is no fun, unless you´re on holiday.
    Happy T-Day!

  7. Lovely photos and post to read. It is on our news here about the fires, the fear of loosing your home to fire is a terrible thing. We take electricity for granted these days, that would be hard to cope with.
I hope you have a Happy T day.

  10. I love the "dad walking around in flashing sneakers" story, Jan. That's delightful!

The stories coming out of CA are frightening - not just the current fires, which have now started in Baja CA (Mexico) too, but also the homeless crisis, and 100s of thousands of people being cut off by the electric company. Our son lives in Oakland, so I guess I'm a worry wart mom - lol.

Ooo, please share what you got from Joanns at T next time.

    Happy T-day! Eileen xx

  11. San Francisco is a lovely city, at least it was when I visited many years ago. Great photos. I'm sorry to hear about the fires and no power. I haven't looked at the news for a few days, so I didn't hear about that. I like the Buckingham Palace photos. Happy T-Day!

  13. I loved reading your stories about your visit to San Francisco. I have never been there, but you have given me a little taste.
I smiled at the cool dude grandpa with his sneakers. And it is awful about the fires. Your power outs are as a result of the fires? Luckily with children you can make fun of it and play, but it really is quite serious and inconvenient. Our power system is not very reliable so we have as little as possible running on electricity. Hot water comes from the solar panels and the heating is not effected by power. I cook on gas and also have a gas oven. We even have a gas lamp for emergencies. The only thing I miss during a power cut is the internet. I have a back-up battery that works for 15 minutes to give me the time to properly close down my computer in case of a powercut.
Sorry for the late reply. I have friends from Holland staying with us and it is a bit rude to spend time sitting at the computer while they are there.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  15. Fun, fun post, Jan! It sounds like quite an adventure riding the muni, and then later driving to that wonderful place with views and artwork to eat, even though it was your second choice! It sounds so fun playing in the dark with your grandsons. So funny about the light under the blanket! :) Sorry I am so late, Jan! Have a great week-end!
