T for Tuesday
Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and I’d like to wish you all a very belated happy and healthy new year!
I’ve been MIA for quite a few weeks as our New Year didn’t get off to a good start, I had a bad cold over Christmas and Steve started with sickness bug on New Years Eve and spend New Year’s Day in bed, by January 2nd I started with bug, it seems it going around the world,
Thankfully we are fully fit now and have been putting a plastic coat over the roof tiles as extra protection, having a flat roof makes us a little over cautious especially as we had a leak last year.
We also had to have a new boiler, over here we use bottle gas, took three days to get it working would you believe, after two days we found out that Romero had bought the Butane gas model, we have always used propane, apparently that’s why it kept cutting out, so steve had to buy a new gas bottle, gas regulator and pipe, it’s been working but it’s only really just hot enough if we only had the taps on half flow but at least we could have a reasonably warm shower, Luckily a friend arrived at the weekend and came around to take a look, after an hour he has managed to fix the problem by fitting a tap to adjust the flow into the boiler, we had a lovely hot shower last night.
Yesterday we woke up to rain, we had been expecting it but was surprised how cold it has turned overnight, in fact on our way back from shopping we realised that it was so cold that there was snow on the Sierra Espuna!
We see that every couple of years but this year for the first time we have snow on Mount Brian, our nickname for it as our friend Brian lives close to it, we were totally shocked,I know so many of you who have deep, deep snow are probably saying, what! You call that snow! but this IS Southern Spain!
In the photo above you might spot the little white Church, it has been renovated by some of the foreign residents, now it’s open on special days.
Last Friday we decided to go out for Lunch, we always go somewhere on the seafront as it’s lovely to have a walk in the sun and look at the views.
We went to the Marina to a Restaurant called Calletta, we had to sit in the shade as it was quite hot, a bit different to today!
our starters below, Steve had chorizo guiso (stew) mine was crab and coleslaw salad, our first course was a salad for me and a Murcian salad for Steve, I totally forgot to take photos, again, that is tinned tomatoes, cold with flaked tuna a boiled egg in it! Not something I like but apparently it was delicious.
Our main courses were Pork in Pepper sauce and Hake with Almond Sauce, the photos make the food look quite bland but it was delicious
Our drinks of choice for me was a glass of vino blanco and for Steve a sin alcohol beer, we also had a strawberry cheesecake and a chocolate cake for dessert and a coffee, all for €10 Euros each!
I hope you are all fit and well, I don’t make New Years resolutions but I have vowed to carry on using up my stash and not spending too much this year! I can hear you all saying, good luck with that, LOL!!
happy T Day
Jan x

Yes, snow in southern Spain is surely rare. No snow here yet, but it's very cold and frosty today. Can't see the details on the pics though, they are too small and I can't see well enough to see the Church or mountains, sorry. Happy T Day, and hope that the rest of the year goes well for you after a rocky start! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteHi Jan, beautiful view of the mountain-pretty with snow on top. Glad to read you are both feeling better now. when I was younger I always sick on the holidays-no fun at all
ReplyDeletegood you got hot water again. The food looks and sounds so delicious. Happy T hugs Kathy
PS loved the ocean views for your meal too-
DeleteLooks like Lisca had even more snow than you had. Hers was on her doorstep, patio, car, road, etc.
ReplyDeleteI had trouble getting to your blog. When I added the .com, Firefox wouldn't let me connect because it said your site was untrustworthy. I went to my search engine and entered your blog name and asked my site to find it. That's how I finally got here.
Some of your food looks very appealing. I love fish, so that was a plus for me. Now I'm hungry, too. Thanks for sharing your wine and your husband's beer, as well as your food and the snow shots, too for T this Tuesday, dear. And thanks for your kind words about my recent illness.
Snow whether big or small amounts, it's all UGH! We had a few inches last weekend and weather dudes are now gleefully predicting a bigger storm for the coming weekend. UGH! I'd rather go for a walk along the beach and out to lunch. Your food looks delicious. Glad to hear you are feeling better, got your boiler fixed and can take a glorious hot shower! Happy T Day!
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling a bit better now after having been ill. We haven't had it yet. (touch wood)So I do hope it passes us by.
ReplyDeleteGood news about the boiler! It is so good to finally have a hot shower.
Your menu del dia looks very nice. And such a great location on the coast.
We are having a lot of snow at the moment. We have been snowed in for two days. I hope we can get the car out tomorrow (we haven't got a 4x4 and there is a little steep hill outside our house which still has a lot of snow on it). We had a foot of snow and even today it is still ankle high in places. (We live in Caniles, in the Granada province)
Wishing you a good week,
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
I'm sorry to hear you were both sick during the holidays. There do seem to be a lot of colds and flus going around in many places around the world. I never pass judgement on anyone who gets snow. It's actually worse when it happens in a southern area that normally doesn't get any. This week I got a few inches of snow, followed by an arctic blast that hasn't let up yet, so it's very cold and unpleasant where I am in Connecticut USA. Your meals looked delicious. That's a great price for all of the food that was included in it. Happy T-Day!
ReplyDeleteI've missed you at T, Jan. It's crummy being sick over the holidays. On top of that you had problems with your gas heat. I'm glad you're back and that all is well.
ReplyDeleteMount Brian, I like that. Your meal sounds very interesting. The crab cakes look delicious.
Happy T-day! Eileen xx
Mount Brian - I love this :-)
ReplyDeleteMy parents in law are in Spain right now, cause winter in Germany is too cold - haha...
Wow, 10€ each sounds like a bummer!
Sorry to answer that late - a happy weekend to you, Iris x
