T is for Tankerton
Happy T day, so happy to be joining you all again this week over with Elizabeth and Bleubeard for the T party.
We have been walking every day, it’s been pretty cold here, our car has been white all over with frost in the mornings until the sun gets on to it but as long as it’s dry we can go out. I have bought myself a winter coat, I never need a really thick coat in Spain so I will be leaving it here when we go home,
We had a walk along Tankerton Slopes, we don’t go down to the beach as there’s quite a few steps to go down so we walk along the footpath on the top. The beach is shingle all along this part of the coastline until you reach Margate but It’s a lovely place, quite small with shops on the back street, they have a really good Fish and Chip Shop too, normally our last nights treat before we head home!
All along the beach front you can see the multicoloured beach huts, they are so expensive to buy nowadays, you used to be able to buy a house for that price, ha,ha,
This is the Seaview cafe where we stop halfway for a cup of tea, they do have tables outside but I’m afraid it’s too cold for us, it cools the tea too quickly!
It’s quite small inside but they have quite a good selection on the menu, especially breakfast items. To me it’s a typical English cafe much as you would have found years ago
Of course I need to show you my drink for this week, a mug of tea, my Mother in Law always used to say, “Let’s have a nice cup of tea” , always made me smile as if we would want a horrible one!!
Mind you we have had some awful tea, once Steve told the waiter in Macy’s Cheesecake Factory how to make a pot of tea, it came with lukewarm water so the tea didn’t mash, tasted like dish water!
Peet's do make a good tea as they have a special boiler that heats the water to boiling point, I know this as the manager was a tea connoisseur and I think quite pleased to have someone actually order black tea! With milk for us of course, he even gave us a few samples of different black teas to try!
The sun is out today and hopefully the gale force winds have died down a little so we will off for another walk later, I hope no one has suffered any storm damage!
Take care and Happy T Day.
Jan x

Glad you are enjoying being in England again, and I'm sure you need a thick coat there! You have visited some good cafes, too, and it's always good when they know how to make drinks properly. There's a song about 'A nice cup of tea in the morning....' Do you remember it? Happy T Day, Valerie
ReplyDeleteBeautiful area you are visiting, Jan. Those beach huts I've read are so expensive, but they used to be really reasonably priced. It seems their value has increased disproportionately with the market. Still, they are SO colorful.
ReplyDeleteI also prefer black tea when I drink tea. Although I use half and half (you may call it light cream) in my coffee, I don't really care for it in my tea, other than hibiscus tea, which really needs it. It's always good when you can actually get a good cup of tea while out and about. I often find the water they bring is not suitable for steeping the tea the required time. Thanks for sharing your walks and your tea with us for T this Tuesday.
BTW, those candies you talked about are sold every year in the states. They are nothing but sugar and food coloring, but the kids seem to like them. I was hoping everyone would think I was providing heart biscuits or cookies.
Elizabeth they also reminded me of some wooden buttons I bought for card making!
DeleteI thought those were buttons lol
DeleteSo pleased that you are enjoying your visit here in England! The coastal walk with the pretty beach huts looks wonderful and I bet the cafe was a very welcoming sight too, nothing like a cup of tea to warm you up 😀. Enjoy your walks and happy T Day! Hugs, Jo x
ReplyDeleteWhat a great beach to walk at Jan. And you have no snow. (I don't think much of England gets a lot of snow but maybe I am wrong). I do love a winter beach walk unless the wind is horrible. I bet it was nice to stop for a warm drink after your walk. Happy T day. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful visit to England-I have never seen little beach huts like that before-they are pretty-are they just used for beach gear or fishing gear? enjoyed the story of the tea. Glad you are able to get out and walk-Happy T hugs Kathy
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the walk along the beach and the adorable, colorful beach houses. After all that walking and I bet it was a bit brisk, a cup of tea would be welcome. Had to laugh at the Nice cup of tea. Like you I've always wondered who would want a bad cup of tea? Happy T Day
ReplyDeleteThat looks like an outing with a wonderful view. What a lovely walk, and the cafe looks like the perfect place for a cup of something hot on a chilly day.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea those colorful beach houses were sold. I'd always thought they were rented for the day.
Happy T Tuesday!
Great photos , love the beach hut one.
ReplyDeleteIt LOOKS cold there too, so something HOT would be delightful, I'm sure.
Happy T-day
Such lovely beach huts. It makes for a beautiful picture even in the winter. The cafe indeed looks like a typical English cafe, where you get tea. (In Spain a cafe is a place where you get coffee).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are enjoying your visit to England, and if that warrants buying a winter coat, then so be it.
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
sounds like such a wonderful visit despite the cold weather. I'd love some really good fish and chips- made the right way:):) Those beach huts are fab! I know they have similar in Norway (seen on TV) and they say the same about how ridiculously expensive they have become. Enjoy the remainder of your visit and happy T day!
ReplyDeleteLovely beach huts and yes they are very expensive to buy. It seems like you are having a good visit to the English coast, fish and chips at the end of a walk sounds good to me.
ReplyDeleteHappy but late T day wishes.

This looks like a beautiful beach area to visit. I like those colored huts. What a shame that they are so high priced now. The cafe looked like a nice place to stop for food and coffee. I'm sorry to hear it's cold there. Happy T-Day!
ReplyDeleteMargate looks very quaint with its painted beach huts and that retro look cafe. Like a step back in time. I enjoy places like that.
ReplyDeleteHappy T-day! Eileen xx
