T is for trouble with the Pool

Hello ladies, summer has arrived in Spain, at last, normally the first of April the thermostat turns up to hot, this year has been pretty dismal especially as we had eight weeks of total lockdown. I started this post for last week but just totally forgot what day it was until late Tuesday. The whole week was pretty busy for some reason.
Our first outing out of lockdown , we had a lovely morning, after dropping the car off we walked down into the port and along the beach.

This is a rubber tree, you can see how big it is compared to the car driving down the road, it’s even got a palm tree growing through it, the roots have pushed up through the pavement.
we stopped at the bakery for croissants meaning to eat them sat on the seafront but we know the lady at the bakery and as soon as we ordered the croissants she said, dos cafe con Lethe, Steve straight away said yes please, I’m panicking and thinking nooooo! We had agreed before leaving home that we wouldn’t eat or drink out so I had carried two bottles of water! We were the only ones there and I must admit it felt so good to sit in the shade looking at the beach, she told us they haven’t earned any money for eight weeks, it’s such a shame,
We walked down to the marina, around the block and down to see our friends at the pharmacy, they were all pleased to see us, asked about the family and all the ladies came out to say hello, what a difference to the pharmacy on our Urbanización, they really aren’t friendly at all.
I tried five stationers, four closed, the only one open didn’t have ant photo paper but walking back to the garage we passed the phone shop, they had some although it was expensive but now I’ve managed to carry on with my photo journals I’ve been making. I've actually made five pages in the last three days!
Thursday afternoon I had so much fun, I joined a zoom chat with I think fourteen ladies altogether from Splitcoaststampers, Sharon (Foxystamper) joined too, one lady from Australia, one from Canada and the others from various parts of the USA, all on different time zones, some even got up at 6am so we call all meet up, there was a lot of chatter but it was fun meeting all the ladies at last. We were supposed to be crafting! Some of the ladies did manage to combine chatting with crafting and one lady made several dolls from Handkerchiefs, they are so pretty, she intends to give them away, she wanted to visit the care home but obviously isn’t allowed for the moment.
Steve made us a lovely Pork Pie salad as I was busy chatting up in my craft room so we had a late dinner, it was delicious!
Since then I’ve chatter with one friend in Australia, we did get some crafting done and it was good to share ideas.
We now go to the Paseo every day to walk, usually we are there by 8.30am before it gets busy, today they are opening the beaches with restrictions, mmmmm that’s going to be interesting we are supposedly only allowed in our own region for now but shopping centres and larger shops can open. I pleased that they are still strict about shopping, face masks must be worn, hand sanitizer and gloves given out, they even have a guard on the door at one supermarket, makes me feel safer but they seem to let more people in so it’s a case of dodging the shoppers!
This mug has a photo of Woolwich Barracks on it, Steve did his army training there and a friend who's son lives near there bought it for Steve many years ago, it's never used of course but it's a memento of his time in the Army.
Hope you are all keeping safe, We are having the skimmers fixed on the pool, a massive hole has been dug at the end of the pool so the whole garden is a mess but at least they have found the problem, a pipe had collapsed and folded up so nothing could go through it, dred to think what the bill will be but it had to be done, looking forward to them finishing so we can go walking again but he hasn't even turned up yet at 9.10am and was supposed to arrive at 8am, pretty annoying!!
Happy T Day
Jan x

  1. Hi Jan, glad you are able to get out and about again. LOVE that huge double-tree in the first pic, it's most unusual. I remember the barracks well from my visits to Greenwich when I used to visit my parents, it's lovely there, Great mug, too. And I love the thought of a pork pie salad, yummy! Happy T Day, take care, hugs, Valerie

  2. Hmmm croissants! And a marina, oh, I miss the ocean.

That Zoom-session sounds awesome! Well, I´m not a friend of cameras, but we were lucky enough to talk to a friend from Perth and it felt sooo good to hear her voice.
So sad we cannot book the holiday this time.
    Your food lucks yummy!

    Good luck with that pipe!
    A happy T-day to you, Iris x

  4. Good morning, So glad you were able to get out-we all need some normalcy again, safely.
sorry about your pool issue, but like you said needs to get fixed so you can enjoy it . I need to look into one of those cameras for the computer-would like to see if we can get more e visits with doctors that way-Larry's heart doctor is a 2 hour plus drive now-for a 15 minute visit and it's in a big city too.
glad you were able to do some crafting and get out and about for a bit. Your salad looks yummy!
Happy t wishes oh and I have never seen a rubber tree before-amazingly huge.

  6. I had no idea rubber trees got so big! I'm glad you were able to safely eat at such a lovely spot. It would be pleasant to live close enough to an open beach to have a bit of time there. It's so nice to hear that some easing of restrictions allows for that :) Happy T Tuesday!

  7. It's so nice to hear about some of the T-ladies' adventures as they are allowed to go out and about more freely, Jan. We're still waiting, but hopefully our day will come soon too.

The pork pie salad looks very interesting - with something for everyone.

    Happy T-Day! Eileen xx

  8. wow- that is one massive tree!! So happy you enjoyed your bakery treat and are able to walk by the sea again. I so hope to be able to do that soon (our April plans got cancelled of course). Sounds like a fun zoom chat, and good on hubby for having that yummy dinner ready. Happy T day!

  9. What an amazing tree. I once owned a rubber plant, but it looked NOTHING like that tree. And of course the palm, too.

Sorry to read about your pool pipe. I hope you get it fixed soon so you can enjoy your pool.

Some of our restrictions have been lifted, too. However, I still won't go out if there are others around. I'm pretty anal about it, so you two were brave.

Your meal looks good, except for the pork. Sorry, this vegetarian didn't eat pork even when I ate meat. The rest looks great, though.

That's a beautiful mug and what a wonderful souvenir, too. Thanks for sharing your walk on the beach, your meal, and your husband's lovely mug with us for T this Tuesday.

  10. I am late but want to be sure I wished you a happy T day. It sounds like you had a nice day out and it must have been nice sitting by the beach enjoying a treat. And your zoom sounds really fun and nice to see these ladies from around the world. It is always interesting how we there is so much you get to know when you actually see someone and talk. Hope it was a great T day. Hugs-Erika

  11. Lovely photos from your trip out. Are you 100% re-opened, or only partial? Here in Connecticut, we're only partially re-opened, with a lot of stringent rules still in place. Happy belated T-Day!

  12. Wow! That is a whopper of a tree! Amazing!
I'm glad you got all your errands done safely. It must have been so nice to see the sea again.
We have also been out shopping. I really need to go to the garden center and I think that has opened too now. (although it does not sell food).
What a lovely meal. Do you make your own pies or can you buy them where you live? Our nearest 'English shop' is in Albox, which still is an hours drive from here.
The mug is beautiful. What lovely memories. (My hubby was stationed in Germany too before I met him, but not in Detmold. He was in Dortmund)
    Happy (belated) T-Day,
    Stay safe,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  13. The virtual crafting session must have been fun. I've done something like that on Skype, but only with one friend! It must be nice to get out and about. In Massachusetts, we are opening slowly so not much different than quarantine. That rubber tree is just amazing. Restaurants here are only open for take out. They are still trying to figure out how they are going to manage things when they can open. Sadly, some of the smaller places will be out of business. Ouch on the expense on the pool repair, but then you think of the oasis you will be able to enjoy. Happy T Day

  15. We are hoping to go out in the next couple of weeks, we have been told that we can book to go to our favourite National Trust garden when they open up but do plan to take our own food and drink and won't be out for so long - not intending using public facilities for a while!!!! I envy you your coffee and croissant by the sea! Zoom chats are great aren't they? I am going to have a crafting session with a friend next week via our laptops! I hope your pool gets sorted soon and you can enjoy yourselves! Have great weekend! Very belated T day wishes, Chrisx
