T is for Tomatoes

Hello Ladies, hope you are all well.  Not much excitement around here, same old, same old but at least we are healthy. Vaccines have finally started at our medical centre at last, for over 80's!!! Might be awhile before I get called.

We finally managed to buy the Tomatoe plants and a basil plant last week, they look like bush cherry tomatoes, they are so cheap to buy but DH loves to have something to do and enjoys growing them.

Our fruit  Bushes, the stick looking things, have finally started to have green growth on them so hopefully they will have some fruit this year, if not I'm afraid their days are numbered. The strawberries are still growing and flowering although they are slow to ripen.

You might wonder about the canes across the veg plot, we have to keep those there to stop the cats digging it up and pooping all over it, sorry I know many of you are cat loves but it truly is disgusting. We've also put Pine bark on the top to help but it seems the birds like to dig in that.

We saw the goats again, they were in the vineyard this time eating the weeds around the plants. I didn't realise just how many they had, they were all fighting to escape their pen when we drove past but I was too late to get a photo as they had gone off somewhere when  we went past on our way home.

Friday we were naughty again and had fish and chips although we had to sit just around the corner from the beach, it was so hot in the sun, there's no benches either to sit on so we parked in the shade, still in sight of the beach, we actually saw two people swimming, not sure it would be warm enough for me just yet.

The white building is a church and on Fathers Day, which I think is this Sunday, is a big celebration here in Spain, I've seen people outside listening to the service as it's been packed inside.

This is the smaller Marina on the edge of the Puerto

My drink related post for this week, I made some Kumquat Liqueur with a few we had left on the tree, it was an easier recipe than I've used before, just Brandy, Kumquats and sugar into a jar and shake every day for two months.

It's quite a cute bottle, I gave a friend some Kumquats years ago and she made a liqueur and gave me a sample in this bottle, as you can see it didn't make too much.

I only had a taste on my finger but it tastes very smooth, I will save it for the family to try when they finally get to visit again.

We've had sunny and warm weather all week but apparently it's going to change over the weekend, rain again,  I actually dug my shorts out to wear around the garden, never mind I still haven't dismantled the fire so it's all ready if we need it.

Keep Safe Ladies, Happy T Day

Jan S

  3. Yum, Tomatoes! Looks like you are going to have a great garden. The things we do to keep the pests out of our gardens. Here it is groundhogs, rabbits, squirrels and deer. What kind of berries are on your bush?
    Fish and Chips sound delicious!
    Happy Tea Day,

  4. My husband and I have each had our first vaccine shot, and they're opening up to more soon. It's exciting to see this moving in the right direction.

Your plantings look promising :) I like cats -_inside_. Outside they are a hazard to our native wildlife, messy for flower beds, and in danger from traffic. I'll get off my soapbox now ;)

Fish and chips sounds better and better lol and I might just have to get some take-out for St. Patrick's Day :) We won't have that view, of course, but I'm enjoying your photos.

We've had highs in the 70s with some rain off and on, but we're expecting storms tomorrow. You never know, though, so it may be fine.

    Happy T Tuesday!

  6. I love cherry tomatoes. I hope you have a bumper crop. Plants are not cheap here, so I'm in awe of how many your husband has planted.

Being able to view water and the beach is a wonderful extra for where you live. And fish and chips sound wonderful, too. I'd love to have some about now.

How wonderful that you made Kumquat Liqueur. It's a fun looking bottle and it sounds really good, too. Thanks for sharing your tomatoes, your beach, and your Liqueur with us for T this Tuesday, dear Jan.

  7. Wonderful to get those tomatoes in, homegrown always tastes the best 😁. The goats made me smile, I wasn't sure if they should have been in there at first ...ha, ha! The kumquat liqueur sounds very yummy, I'd love to try some with you this T Day - Happy wishes! Hugs, Jo x

  8. Oh how nice to be able to get the garden started for the season again! It's a bit too early for us here in NE PA but hopefully soon we can begin.
Kumquat liquor sounds like a nice little aperitif. The only liquor I ever made was a cranberry one I gave as gifts one Christmas. It was quite good. Enjoy your beach time. Happy T day!

  9. Lucky you to be able to plant tomatoes and basil already. Basil is so aromatic, isn't it, and it makes me think of summer. I am loving the photo views, and how nice to get some fish and chips. Yum. You had a nice view while you ate. Hope it was a happy T day Jan. Hugs-Erika

  10. Kumquat Liqueur sounds interesting, Jan. And tomato plants already.
We are supposed to get hail and bad weather overnight tonight. I love your view along the beach. What a nice place to live. Happy T Day!

  11. Very nice photos. I have started my garden too. Even though it got below freezing the last two day. I have a new greenhouse and that helps. Have a great day.

  12. It seems no matter what you do to deter critters something gets in. The cheesecloth kept the birds off the strawberries, but the chipmunks found their way under and took only 1 nibble from the back of every berry! I hope you have luck keeping all the critters away. The kumquat liqueur sounds interesting. And we had fish and chips last Friday and will have them again this Friday. Lent and all. 😉 Happy T Day
