T is for

Time to join Elizabeth and Bleubeard for another T Party, soon comes around, I sometimes find it hard to remember what I’ve been doing since the last weeks Party!

It’s been slightly cooler weather, still hot but bearable,  we had a couple of small jobs to do but we’ve been up early to do them, my husbands main weekly job, sometimes twice a week is cleaning the pool, the wind brings dust that sinks to the bottom of the pool so it’s an ongoing task,

I think I mentioned that we had a trip to buy a fly screen, the sort that has hanging strips, well my husband put up the hooks, it was hard going as the beam he had to drill has metal bars running through it, anyway he finished and we hung it up and we were both speechless, it was too short, of course I got the blame, my husband insists he told me 230cm and I wrote down 213cm.

It wasn’t wasted as I now have it hanging outside my craft room door! we’ve been all over to find a longer length, eventually we went to  visanfer builders merchants who have some made to measure, chose the colour, clear with gold spirals, who doesn't like a bit of bling, paid a deposit then the girl rang to say they can’t make it, we went back to ask if any of the others on display could be made in that length, she rang to say yes but unfortunately only white, oh well, matches the door! At least when it arrives we just have to hang it up. Our next project is making a fly screen for he small window in my craft room, it’s all go being retired you know !!

So had another visit to the Chinese restaurant,  if we arrive at 1pm we are usually the only ones in there and it’s cool, we ordered the duck and chicken, again, this time my husband decided  to try the bananas and I had the apple fritters with honey., I think the heat was getting to the waitress, she tried to pour my wine into the glass without taking the cork out, made us all laugh, she pointed to her head and said it’s too hot!

Luckily the Apple fritters in Honey were a smaller portion than the bananas, thankfully!

Tomorrow lunchtime we are planning to try a restaurant we haven't been to before, it's been recommended to us by some friends.

This is our BBQ area although it’s now our seating area, it’s lovely and cool now we’ve had the roof put on and having a gap around the top means we get a lovely breeze, most days, the flowers are all artificial, it takes too much water in the heat to keep them alive so this year we bought more pots and flowers, I bought the trailing plants to hide the drain pipe so I’m quite pleased with it now

I tiled the walls, with help from my husband, he was the labourer for that job, the brick pillars were just concrete so we covered them with handmade bricks.

I made a bacon, tomato and cheese quiche for dinner, it lasted two days with salad, I made it with creme fraise instead of cream, it makes the filling really creamy, my husband also made the potato salad with it instead of Mayo, I don’t like Mayo so I really enjoyed it. I usually put out the meal because, as you can see, this is my husbands idea of a small portion,  he then complains when I can't finish my meal!!!

My drink this week, I haven't had Lemon Barley water for years, I spotted it in the  local English supermarket, I do get tired of drinking water so it's been a refreshing change.

Nothing too exciting to do in this heat, it's getting harder and harder to park at the beach now the holidaymakers are here and that's at 8.30am when we arrive to walk, apparently it's hard to see the sand during the afternoon as there's so many people on the beach.

Hope you are all keeping safe and enjoying the summer, take care.

  1. Hi Jan! Sounds like you're being kept busy. What a job to find a fly screen. I need a new one, too, mine got shredded in the high winds and storms. Your food all looks so good, you've made me hungry. I'm still having to follow a bland diet, and it's boring! But I can least I can drink coffee! Love your BBQ are, so lovely! Have a great week, happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  2. Hello Jan! Happy T-day! Wonderful looking (and sounding) food and that drink sounds interesting too. Your BBQ sitting area is lovely - I would love to sit there with you and have tea (or wine - lol). Definitely a screen for the craft room! I need to go see what you have been creating at SCS. Many hugz

  3. You have a beautiful outdoor seating area. I would guess you do get some shade out there too, which must make a nice place to sit. Your quiche looks yummy, and I had to laugh at your serving sized comments. My husband goes for big servings too, usually of what I don't really want also. Smile. And I don't know barley water, we don't have it here, but I do like to try new things, so maybe if I ever see one I will try it. Hope you're having a wonderful T day. Hugs-Erika

  4. The food all looks so good- but I really am yearning for your quiche right now! Your BBQ area is really lovely and must be so nice to sit at. I don't blame you for using the artificial flowers when it's so hot it's impossible to keep fresh ones living. They do make such realistic looking artificial ones any more. Not familiar at all with barley water but I'd try it;) Happy T day!

  5. Fly screens are built into the windows of virtually every house in the US. We've always found it very peculiar that they weren't a standard feature of European homes. I hope you manage to get them all installed.

  6. The sun room is screened in. So nice to sit "outside" and not have to deal with bugs. Your outdoor area is so pretty. What a lovely oasis. The food looks delicious. The only barley water I've heard of was from a song in the musical Mary Poppins. The children wrote a letter with requirements for a nanny. And doesn't smell like barley water. Happy T Day!

  8. Sorry to hear it is so hot. It is here as well.
Your meals look delicious! I especially like the sounds of those fritters. Anything with fruit sounds yummy to me.
    Happy Tea Day,

  9. I have to agree with Mae. We have fly screens on all our windows and some doors, too. However, I had no idea that is what they are called. I envisioned something that you pushed in to enter a room/

Your meal looks good, but I am and never have been, a fan of duck. I like the look of the apple fritters. Now I'm SUPER hungry. I never use mayo. There's something in it that makes me sick when I eat it. REALLY sick. I have to be careful at picnics where others bring food. I usually use ranch dressing, but the creme fraise sounds good, too. Thanks for sharing your meals, your incredible back patio and bbq area, and your lemon barley, which I had never heard of before, for T this Tuesday, dear Jan.

  10. Jan, so interesting to read your post. Your husband blaming you, sounds familiar to what transpires here. :) Also, you must have a lot of restaurants there, for there to be one you haven't tried. I pictured that you lived in a small town.. Your food looks yummy. Almost forgot to say I love your barbeque area. Really nice! Happy t Day.

  11. Jan, it made me smile about your DH blaming you for writing down the wrong measurement for your blind…that sounds familiar LOL. Glad that you could still use it. You guys never stop. I love your BBQ area and love what you did with the artificial flowers. We also can’t keep flowers in the heat and I keep on about getting artificial ones but my hubby isn’t one to do things quickly. We’ve only lived here 9 years lol. Your Chinese meal looks yummy and lemon barley drink..another childhood memory. Thanks for your post. I so enjoy reading yours, Nancy’s and Sharon’s blogs every week. Hugs from Oz jx
