T is for thunder storm

Since last week we had another small job to do, my husband said he would make me a fly screen for my craft room window, I've only had the craft room for eighteen years so maybe it could have waited for cooler days, my fault really as since we put the fly screen over the door it blocks out the breeze, I mentioned this and so he went out to buy the bits and pieces.

We started at 7.45am as it was slightly Misty and lovely and cool, so the first three sides were quick but doing the top part, again it was a concrete pillar with metal rebars, the drill actually stopped working but luckily my husband still had the old plug into the electric type, then the raw plugs were too small then the screws were too small so an hour later , in the sun we decided enough was enough, two hours we’d been up there, we still haven't put the mesh in as it's been too hot, maybe tomorrow, early.

Good news, our vaccine passports arrived by post, that’s ticked off the list, I was excited when I saw it was front the health authorities thinking it was my new medical card, oh well at least one of the three documents we are waiting for has arrived.

Reading Elizabeth’s blog and seeing the photo of her Poinsettia, well this is mine from last Christmas. It’s slowly going green, I’m assuming in the winter the flowers will appear again. I did keep in the the conservatory until it started to wilt in the heat,  then I took it outside in partial shade, didn’t like that either, now it’s in the shade and it’s growing again.

We have trees over here that have flowers that look like poinsettias, one village has them growing along the road and the trees look quite bare but have the big red flowers on them. I had a poinsettia a few years ago, planted it in the garden and it grew into a small tree until my husband decided it needed trimming, sadly it died, I was quite annoyed and banned him from touching my flowers after that

Walking around the Marina last week we saw this beautiful ship, it’s from Gdańsk in Poland, I'd love to know if it actually sailed from there, we’ve been told  you can pay to look around, a bit disappointing as we thought you could go on a trip, it has a pirate flag and thought our GS would enjoy it.

It's beautifully made and even has guns on the top deck at the front.

It' very hot and humid at the moment so we've had to start using the air con during the night, I haven't been spending much time up here in my craft room, half an hour and I'm melting!!

Yesterday afternoon we had rain, slowly the sky became darker and darker, suddenly we heard strange banging, it was massive hailstones, they were bouncing off the villa, we were sat outside and they were actually hitting us underneath the roof, it was quite nice until the lightening came, I had to go inside, scares me. This was 2pm believe it or not.

The bits are hailstones that have smashed up.

The thunder rumbled on for a couple of hours but after that everywhere was so dry you wouldn't believe it had rained.

Part of Our beach has washed away so it roped off for now and the main street in the Port was flooded, again, some had photos that looked as if they had snow on the ground.

Although I didn’t join the ATC  swop due to the slow postal service I have made one for the occasion.

A crafting friend send me the vintage ads I used for the BG and I added brown glitter to look like hot chocolate, also my ticket to the tea party for this week.

Thanks you to all my lovely visitors last week, after seeing the awful floods in so many countries I hope you ladies are all safe and well.

  1. Sorry it's so hot and humid, that's not good, and very tiring. Hope you get the screen done when it's a bit cooler. The storm sounds horrible, I always find them scary. Love your ATC, so pretty. Great idea with the chocolate glitter! Glad you got your vaccination certificates, I was able to download mine from the Vaccination centre! Happy T Day, stay safe, have a good week! Hugs, Valerie

  3. Send the heat over, it´s too cold for summer over here. Only 23C, no rain, no nothing.
Love the marina, happy T-day, beautiful card, too!

  4. It is frustrating to do anything outdoors when the heat is just too much-it's like that here again this week too.
I remember when I was kid-our parents always planned a trip in the summer for a couple weeks-we got to tour a docked navy ship that was retired-very cool to walk around.
glad you have a little air conditioning sometimes we just need it-we never had full house a/c til we retired.
I love your atc it's beautiful and interesting about the poinsetta plants-Happy T Kathy

  5. I can relate to the heat and humidity. I am glad you are putting that screen task off until it is a bit cooler.

I am in awe of your poinsettia. Mine died, but I was not surprised. The various plants needed different levels of water, while you can control the water, the sunlight, etc. since yours is a beautiful plant and not part of an arrangement.

That's an amazing ship. It looked HUGE in your photos. Sp glad you shared these with us. I wonder if it is on loan from Gdansk or if it is there to stay.

You had quite a storm, Jan. So glad you were safely inside when it was lightening. That scares me, too.

Your ATC is wonderful. It is perfect for T Tuesday, too. Thanks for sharing your poinsettia, the ship, the scary storm, and your beautiful ATC with us for T this Tuesday, dear Jan.

Cool pirate ship. Would be fun to take a trip in. Even your rain picture looks cool. Beautiful where you live!

I have never kept a poinsettia, but now I wish I had! I will try this year.

    Lovely post. Hugz

  7. Great Vintage ATC Jan. Your weather is definitely Oz weather and we are having storms here. I love it as it freshens everything up. Keep safe as it’s no fun with lightening and thunder. I love your poinsettia and never seen them here without flowers. You are definitely a green thumb. Glad your vaccine passports have arrived. Hope you have now managed to get your fly screen finished. Keep cool and safe. Hugs from Oz jx

  8. what a lovely vintage ATC- I love it! The weather has bee crazy in so many places this summer. We've lucked out except for the humidity at times so we could use a bit more rain.
That ship looks very cool, one I'd love to see up close and inside.
Hope things cool off a bit for you. happy T day!

  9. We're used to having hot and humid weather here, but it's outdoing itself these days. I wish we'd do vaccine passports and vaccine requirements here. I love your vintage ATC :) Happy T Tuesday!

  10. Oh what a lovely ATC! I love vintage.
I still haven't got my vaccination 'passport'. I will have to get on with it if we want to travel by the end of august.
Boy that was a storm and a half! We haven't had anything like that. A short burst of heavy rain, that was all.
I don't know if your poinsettia will go red again. I've never tried.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  11. Even though most Americans want some sort of vaccination passport, it is always a fight here to get anything done. So for now we don't have one. I really like your ATC and the photos you shared. Have a nice day.

  12. Yes, it is extremely hot here. We are under a "heat dome" warnings for next few days, 3 digits. There are millions here in U.S.A. waiting for passports; it was on the news last night how backed up the process is. What a storm! Glad you are safe. I have always been fearful of lightning. Eke!
Your ATC is really lovely and perfect; just too bad you couldn't send it. Happy T Day!

  13. Your ATC is lovely. What a great way to repurpose a vintage ad.
That ship is beautiful and my boys would go crazy if they saw something like this, especially with the guns on the deck.
    Happy Belated Tea Day,
    Kate
