T is for Trying a new place

Another hot week but at least after the storm the humidity has dropped. Now it’s just baking hot.

Wednesday we decided to drive to Cartagena, my husband wanted to buy a new drill but wanted a black and decker to match the tools he already has, he can use the same battery for any of them, now he has four matching batteries! Then I went to get a new swimming cozi for when we go to the beach, couldn’t find one without massive foam pads in the bra top so gave up on that, had a coffee and decided to head back for lunch.  We were shocked to see how quiet the shopping centre was, well apart from the cafe and supermarket.

Views coming over the mountain, unfortunately my husband took us the not so scenic mountain route so not so picturesque.

It's hairpin bends all the way and narrow, when we first moved here we used to come this way all the time to check on the villa, before the motorway was built.

We decided to try Leonardos del Mar restaurant on the small marina, as you can see beautiful views out to sea, two jet skis going by.

One side of the Terrace overlooking the small Marina.

Mixed salad, we had already started before I remembered to take the photograph, disappointing as it had three olives and a couple of capers,  Mostly lettuce and tomatoes with a few slices of onion. It was so windy  some of my lettuce leaves blew onto the floor!! My husband said it looked as if id missed my mouth.

Our drinks this week, I did like the fancy glass they gave my husband for his beer.

We waited for at least twenty minutes from them taking away our starter plates to getting the main course, even though there was just one other couple who arrived after we did and were already eating their main meal.

I had chicken in breadcrumbs with salad and fries, the chicken was lovely but as you can see not many fries and of the matchstick variety, the salad was lettuce and tomatoes and I lost some of that too.

My husband had pasta Mama Mia, very strange as it had a  fried cheese kind of bowl with the pasta in it, he enjoyed it but he wasn’t too keen on so much cheese, especially fried!

unfortunately he had already broken the bowl before I took the photo.

We sat waiting for the waiter after we’d finished our meal to take an order for coffee , after about fifteen minutes the waiter appeared, didn’t even ask if we’d enjoyed our meal so my husband asked for the bill instead, we decided we couldn’t be bothered for another long wait for coffee, needless to say we won’t go back, we didn’t give them a tip either after such dreadful service.

There's no way we could take out five year old GS there as he would get bored waiting to eat. I dread to think how long it takes when they are busy. The funny thing is that the couple who recommended the restaurant told us the next day that they had the same experience too, begs the question as to why they actually recommended it in the first place!!!

When we got back to the car it was boiling inside and the thermometer said 40c although it soon cooled to 37c when we were driving home.

So the saga of my fly screen, my husband measured the window and decided HE would cut it to size,  So we took it outside and he had measured it wrong, too short, he was very annoyed with himself as you can imagine, I didn’t laugh, honestly, I did want to after he blamed me the last time, luckily the mesh only cost us €2 so we bought some more! We are now on plan 5, it’s too difficult to fit the mesh into the rods we bought so my husband bought some plastic rods and made a frame outside the window, we can’t seal the bottom as the rain needs to be able to drain away off the windowsill

I had some exciting news on Sunday, Nancy Our lovely T Party friend chose me to be this weeks featured stamper on Splitcoaststampers, I’m so honoured, thank you once again Nancy and for all the kind comments you’ve left on my gallery, the ladies have been busy visiting my Gallery and choosing a card to make, they've made so many beautiful cards already, I don't feel worthy as the ladies are very talented.

Until next week, keep safe Ladies.

  1. Missing your mouth sure made me laugh!

  2. Congrats on being featured at Splitcoaststampers, well done! Restaurants are sometimes disappointing, I have the feeling some don't want customers! Hope you don't need another screen too quickly.... Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

  3. Hope you are enjoying your special week Jan as FS….so happy for you and there’s been some amazing cards made to honour you. Sorry to hear that the restaurant was a disappointment and yes I wonder why your friends recommended it knowing that they had had a bad experience too. Strange. The food doesn’t sound as though it was a good experience either. Usually you can forego bad food if the customer service is good. At least the views were lovely. Your fly screens look different from ours and more like what we call shutters. Ours are mesh which you can barely see. Most of the homes used to have heavy metal ones which did nothing to the look of the homes. Hope you are cooler this week. Enjoy the rest of your week. Hugs from Oz

  4. You are so worthy, Jan. I love your cards and creations. I actually plan to case another of your cards soon - Wax and Splatter. I have been thinking of it since you posted it just don't know how to case it well.

Lovely pictures and the food does look good so sorry it was not the best and the service was so bad. I have just given up on service to be honest and I don't tip at all if it is not good. I understand it is hard to hire though to I dont really blame the company but the servers. Your screen saga continues...I know the feeling. My hubby would still be measuring - he takes a very long time with everything.

I know the wine was good! Happy T-day! Hugz

  7. Black and Decker are great tools. They are my favorite, too.

I enjoyed the photos of your area of the country. Even if it wasn't the pretty route, it still showed the area in which you live.

What a dining experience. It's amazing when others enter after you, yet get served before you. I don't blame you for not leaving a tip. I sure wouldn't. I have to admit, the glass for your husband's beer was beautiful.

Not sure what a cozi is, but I don't think I need padding.

And so the screen problem continues. I hope at some point you have something you are both happy with.

Congrats on being in the spotlight at Splitcoast Stampers. Your card was adorable (I saw it from Nancy's blog).

Thanks for sharing your trip, the marina restaurant experience including your wine, and your screen with us for T this Tuesday, dear Jan.

  8. Those views are all beautiful to me Jan! Too bad about your restaurant experience- we wouldn't have left a tip either, and it is a wonder the place was recommended to you...
Good luck getting that screen finally completely set up.
And congrats on the spotlight feature at Splitcoast. Happy T day!

  10. Ah, swimsuit shopping :( Such a trial. I dread the day mine finally dies. The views from the restaurant are stunning. What a joy to look out on that. What a shame the service was lacking and the food a disappointment. Where you live, though, I imagine many restaurants have gorgeous views. Happy T Tuesday!

  11. Cartagena is beautiful. We have fond memories of staying there a few days with our campervan. We camped just outside the city in the outskirts and we just got the bus into town each day.
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with the restaurant. The long waits would irritate me too. Perhaps it has changed ownership.
So did you get a new bathing suit in the end?
I smiled at the fly screen saga. I can empathize. We have had similar scenarios.
    Happy T-Day,
    Take care,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  12. I love seeing the area in Spain where you live Jan. How lovely to be by the ocean and the beach. But too bad about the restaurant. I wonder why your friends recommended it to you. I realize not every place is going to be speedy, but there is speedy and there is a long wait. Hope next time you go out things will be better. And I had to smile at your fly screen story. I love how husbands always blame us poor wives at first. Of course we know better, don't we? Hope it was a great T day and happy August too. Hugs-Erika

  13. Your journey still looks interesting to me! The view from the restaurant was clearly the best thing about it! I know staff are sometimes busy but there's no excuse for waiting that long. We had a similar experience the other week. Well done for persevering with the fly screen! Congrats on being featured on Splitcoaststampers! Belated happy T day, Chrisx
